Crucial Ballistix 2x512 DDR2 800 29.99 AR

grabbed a pair of these to add to last weeks deal on buy.com 2GB non-tracers. will these match in timings/speed?
 
Excellent find, OP. Couldn't resist, even though I just ordered 2 gb of Ballistix 6400 ($117-45 rebate) from Buy.com a few days ago.

The price is now $155?! That's more than what I paid for 2gb. Hope my order went through.
 
My RAM is on the way. The deal is back at ZZF now for $40 ($100 - 60 rebate). Or you can have the regular non-LED Ballistix for $36 ($86 - 50 rebate). Not as hot as the $69 for 2 gb deal at Buy.com (which is now gone), but a decent deal for people who ONLY want 1 gb of dual-channel, high-perf DDR2 (PC5400 is so yesterday now).
 
^ you cannot! ddr2 will be around for a long time, and anything more than 3gb is a waste on a 32bit os anyway. no need to go to vista64 until something actually uses it. 🙂

I got 4 gigs for $120 shipped SST stuff...the extra gig was a "waste" but it was worth it 😀

unless you want to use 4gigs of ram+ effectively. 😉 I have 64 bit vista installed with 4 gigs of ram, very nice on large multiplayer games

Most desktop DDR2 motherboards have only four DIMM slots. The 32bit address limit is 4GB, each of those 240pin DIMMs is only 512MB. Multiply 512MB x 4 and you get 2GB, that's quite a bit away from "maxed out".

Also newegg.com has plenty of 1GB DIMMs in the price neighborhood of $30-40.

yes, there are plenty of 1 gb DDR6400 at $30-40 range, but they are CAS 5, and the two you linked to have so-so user reviews. Unless one is running some CAD softwares, at this point 2 gb is more than adequate for most users, even gamers, esp. under XP.

When are you people ever going to learn not to trust NEWEGG reviews? The admins on that site omit and cherry pick reviews for public consumption. Do NOT TRUST THEM as most people whom have left them often do no know CAS from RAS.


Please clairify that whole contradictory statement.

We are talking about 1GB here, not 2GB. Apples to apples, please. Second, read the benchmarks: Lower CAS latency usualy does not translate in to faster speeds and when it does (application specific) it's 1% or less.
