Crucial Ballistic Stick took a dump

I am now operating XP Pro SP2 with 3GB of Ram since one of my sticks took a dump. Since it's better to run memory in pairs, should I replace the hosed stick or just leave it? NewEgg doesn't carry that particular stick any more.

MOBO: GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS3 LGA 775 Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard

MEMORY: Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)

I did have 4 sticks in originally

Depending on your chipset, it may still be running two of the sticks in dual-channel mode, and the third in single-channel mode. I would leave it alone, unless you noticed a performance drop, and in that case I would buy a new 2x2GB kit of RAM, and sell off the 1GB chips.

Honestly, you don't need the exact same memory. I have the same Ballistix as you and have it mixed with 2 Patriot sticks as I could not find 2 more sticks of Ballistix at the time and my local computer store carries Patriot. They use the same memory
"chip" just different name. Check to see what chips are running in your current ballistix and then get 2 sticks of the same from another vendor.

My Patriot PC26400 4-4-4-12 at 2.1V are the EXACT same thing as my Ballistix PC26400 4-4-4-12 2.1V. Works beautifully -- never had an issue running all 4 slots filled with the 2 sets and oc'ing very nicely or running stock but at 1.9v instead of 2.1

They have a lifetime warranty from Crucial. No receipt needed. Send the pair, the one with the bad stick, back to Crucial for replacement. It will cost you only a couple of bucks for 1st class postage and delivery confirmation.

Yeah... I wouldn't see why you wouldn't return it. Crucial is pretty good about honoring their warranty. Heck, the last time I had to deal with them, they pre-shipped me new sticks and just had me return my defective stuff in their package... same with corsair...
