I have a i7 build ready in my newegg cart, and I want to buy cheap ram ($$ wise, not quality). i hear crucial is a good name. so i figure to get the ram

Crucial 3GB (3 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1066 (PC3 8500) Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model CT3KIT12864BA1067 - Retail

from new egg and theh upgrade later on when ddr3 prices drop. i will not be overclocking for at least a year and then will once i go my upgrade path.

any opinions on the crucial ram above?

If you're running 32-bit Windows that's probably fine, although most people will tell you to go for at least DDR3-1333 memory.

If running 64-bit OS go for 3x2GB sticks instead.

thanks. based on your feedback I upped to corsair xms3 ddr3 1333, but stayted with 3 x 1 gb for cost. I am running 64 bit Vista though. will it still work?

Yes, but if you had more than 4GB of RAM, Vista-64 would let you use it. So that's just something to keep in mind for upgrades.

+1. If you are getting an i7 build, go for 6GB DDR3.

Personally I'd go for 2 kits of 2x2GB and save some $$.
Don't understand what/why a guide is needed. PC is PC.
I'm sure google can list plenty of configs.
