Like Fallen Kell said, the Tracer modules have LEDs on top that flash when the system is running and they have blue/purple colored lights by the gold leads which lights the area up around the memory slots. The cool part is the top lights flash faster when the memory is used more.

Hey Crucial Labs, there's one thing i'm kinda wondering.

Mind telling us if those are using D9GMH or D9GKX?

I know it's either or, just curious which IC.

I wish I could tell you, we don't get our hands in the manufacturing side of things and we have not removed any of the heatsinks off the modules we have in the lab. I know you are looking for the D9s, I can tell you they are very responsive to high FSBs. ;-)

I had planned to get these for my ASUS P5B, but now this deal makes me wonder which would be better?

There's no reason to be wondering.

These are a far better deal than those Dominators (which are one of the worst deals for D9 chips rated @ 800 btw).

Now it is true that the Dominators will overclock well too, but i'd be willing to bet they won't hit quite as high, since Corsair seems to be binning everything good into the higher end kits (my suspicion anyway).

The other benefit is that these are a guaranteed 1000 MHz.

These will do 667 3-3-3, 800 4-4-4 (or likely 3-3-3 with a vdimm bump or two), & 1000 5-5-5 (also likely 4-4-4 with a vdimm bump).

Jump on these now before they're gone! :D

Why are the dominators one of the worst deals for D9 chips rated at 800? Is it because of their high price? Just wondering.

Mainly price yes.

I have nothing against Corsair, well, aside from their guys who post on various forums recommending their own RAM.

Corsair is very good at marketing. Superb actually.
Don't even get me started on their miracle heatspreaders.

Many people buy based on name, & while that's not a bad thing per say, when it comes to PCs, the brand you buy often isn't the company who's actually making the product.

In the case of D9GMH/D9GKX chips, the max speeds/timings one can reach are actually quite similar unless the company has binned all them heavily.

That's the main reason why i recommend based on the price & chips, not the brand name on the RAM package.

Personally, i'd much rather have some no-name D9GMH RAM than some Corsair Promos or Elpida, since the former will basically always reach DDR2-1000-1050+ speeds easily, regardless of whether it's rated at 667, 800, or 1000.

This sheds a little light onto how D9 chips are binned:
http://ramlist.ath.cx/micron/

See the D9GMH B6-3 stuff? It's default speeds are actually DDR2-667 5-5-5 @ 1.8V. But manufacturers repackage that at all kinds of different speeds, all the way to way over DDR2-1000.

Same with the D9GKX B6-25E. It's designed to run @ DDR2-800 5-5-5 @ 1.8V. Once again, every manufactur can go thru their batches & determine what SPD to set them at, etc.

BTW, please don't take my explanation as the gospel of RAM, it's merely a basic concept of how things work in some ways.

Hopefully it helps a little :)

thanks n7 - I'll be replacing my OCZ Platinums (rev.1 6400s) with a pair of these Ballistix Tracers soon. I must admit, however, the Platinums are good modules. I do run them at 4-4-4-10 timings w/o any problems at stock voltage (Prime95-tested for hours).

I too grabbed them. I'm in the process of building a C2D system and have been picking up pieces as they go on sale. Have all the disks I need (1x 150GB Raptor, 3x 500GB Seagates), the DVD-Burner (Lite-on w/ Lightscribe), the case (Lian Li PC-201B), the power supply (OCZ GameStream 700W), the sound card (for now just using spare X-Mystic 7.1) and now the Ram. Just need a motherboard, CPU, and video card. Been waiting on the new Asus 680i motherboards to finally come out and possibly custom 8800's. :D Gonna be one hell of a system :D

These are D9GMH however they are very high bin. D9GKX is very hard to find and unless your going into the $400 price range I doubt anyone's finding much. The buffallo firestix used to have it but then they switched to D9GMH. Also this kit is the highest Crucial makes so it's guranteed to be good. Crucial IS micron so it should be very good.

you meant my current OCZ ??
it max out 465Mhz 5-5-5-15.... Because of the limitation of the CPU, i can only do 440 or 500, so this Crucial is crucial for me to max out all my components. Plus a little more coz my expectation is to run everything at 515 x 7.......

I think he meant the Ballistix; I'd like to know as well. Has anyone with a DS3 tried the ballistix for compatability?

icic, didn't really think he will ask for the crucial one since deal is still fresh.
I will definitely post overclocking result for sure...... didn't have to ask :)..
