Buy.com offers Crucial Brand memory (in stock): memory
16X64-7.5 128MB SYNC PC133 168P 3.3V 133MHZ DIMM
This is Crucial's CT16M64S4D7E module. I've already received the RAM from Buy.com, so it's been confirmed.
It's CAS2.
Comes with a lifetime warranty.
Micron IC chips.
This is guaranteed at PC133 @ CAS2, so you should be able to overclock it for even better results.
There is a $30 off $150 floating around (try techbargains). Add a cheap NIC or DVD (I got American Beauty for $16) and you got great memory for a great price. I ordered two of them (separate orders). I will post results, but by then ... there will be no more free shipping.

They also have PNY 128mb 133 for $113, so with one of those $20 coupons, Ebates, and free shipping works out to about $90 for name brand ram....much better than that Zeus junk at Accessmicro...

Are you guys sure this is cas2 memory? When you look at the specifications it says 8ns...and the good stuff from Crucial are the 7E memory modules, not the 7.5E.

Martijnos- The product title says 7.5ns (i.e. "16X64-7.5 128MB SYNC PC133 168P 3.3V 133MHZ DIMM") even though the features page says 8ns. I don't know of any PC133 8ns sticks that Crucial makes.

Siamskunk- I think these are the 7E beauties. They are CL2 PC133 7.5ns, which fits the description of 7Es.

In any case, I will call Crucial tomorrow to confirm if these are the 7Es. (Confirmed with Crucial Tech Support -- they are the 7Es).

Thanks for your effort, Zeppelin. I'm in the market for some quality ram and this seems to be the best deal around.

thanks Zepp,
Hope I was wrong so that we all can enjoy a good quality ram (crucial is rated close to those corsair).
It's listed for $134.99 on their site, almost bought one when they still had free shipping but backed off because I was too stingy to pay for the tax.
Now if it's 7E, I'll definitely not let it go.

Spindler,
I usually follow the link posted on many sites such as techbargains and then the coupon will pop up.
All u need to do is just click on "Redeem" to put it in your basket.

ah cool, that worked! thanks siam :)

it would've been a HOT deal for me with the ram + usb joystick for a total of $124.53 , but taxes bump it up to a total of $135.41 i dont even see the listed states that get taxed on the checkout screen either :-((

still a good deal, but not a great deal anymore w/ those darn taxes. nice find nevertheless, zeppelin! :)

Just talked to Crucial Tech Support. Here are his exact words "... it's exactly the 7E." Need I say more. :)
BTW, here's a description of the 7E link

I am running two of those bought from buy.com and I had them up to 140MHz Cas2 to test without any problems. Now I am back to 133MHz, but simply because I don't want to take major efforts for cooling my CPU. Nice memory.

I've got some of this ram and I can get to 146 mhz @ CAS2 before I have lockups on my BE6-II.

Just a heads up:

If you order the Crucuial RAM from buy.com with a coupon (as I did), review the sales tax on your order to see whether the sales-tax total reflects the deduction of any coupon value before the tax was calculated. Another customer reported here last week that a buy.com rep admitted their computer calculated the tax wrong on his orders that included a coupon, responsively credited back the tax overcharge and commented they'd be "looking into it." Well, apparently after 6 days, buy.com continues to "look into" the matter, as my order-with-coupon reflected a miscalculated sales tax. After filtering through one CSR and her supervisor, I finally was delivered to someone who, again, admitted the sales tax calulation error. He will be crediting back to me the difference.

JD- Did they calculate tax before the coupon was applied or did they totally miscaluculate it? I always assumed that tax was applied before the coupon (just another way to reap a few pennies or dollars from customers). If it's supposed to be applied after coupons, then I'm entitled to at least $100 of miscaluculated taxes (through all my purchases).

On a side note, a buy.com CSR emailed me saying that you can only use free shipping or a coupon (but not both). Strange because I was able to get both on my order of the memory. But my inquiry was in regard to something else (DOTD + another item + coupon = no free shipping). Oh well.

Thanks for the info. I just ordered my memory this morning, looking forward to getting some of the good stuff!

Regarding free shipping and the coupon, I have successfully done it on several order the last two days...

Last week I placed an order with Buycomp and used a $30 off coupon.

The tax was calculated on the amount prior to the application of the coupon.

The posted tax rate for CA, 7.25%, was not the tax rate that was used for this latest order. If I recall correctly, it was 7.53%. Earlier orders had used 7.25%.

I noticed the same mistake on four ealier orders from Buycomp inasmuch as they are charging tax on the before discount price.

I e-mailed their "customer support" and the helpful reply was that they are required to charge CA sales tax and that it is done automatically. I have to seriously question Buycomp's commitment to "customer support" in light of this extremely helpful reply.

Excellent memory, this crucial pc133 cas 2 -7e stuff.

zeppelin:

..before the coupon was applied:

They applied the CA 7.25% sales tax *not* to the Subtotal (which on a buycom receipt reflects coupon deductions) but to the sum of the items alone, which of course being larger than a subtotal that subtracts coupons will always yield a larger sales-tax. Staples receipts show sales tax applied only after coupon values are subtracted.

Some buycomp CSRs' and supervisors' positions seem to reflect "if that's the way the computer does it, then it must be correct" (and supposedly in conformance with California state law). Of course, if you ask them to please cite the state law they believe the computer program is conforming to, they don't know. Further, if one persists and asks to speak to a "higher up", either some of those people actually know the protocols about sales-tax application or they're unsure and simply choose to give the benefit of the doubt to the customer to keep them happy by making a small adjustment...when challenged, that is.

But I'd suspect that Staples or any business wouldn't be passing on an opportunity to make some extra bucks per order, if it were, in fact, legitimate to do so (...nor perhaps might a business be expected to readily make adjustments in its customers' favor, if, indeed, it harbored certainty about the correctness of its practice.) Anyone with examples of how other businesses handle their sales tax application on orders that involve coupons? Please share.

How many orders per day/year are handled by companies like Staples.com and Buy.com? Though the amount purportedly being credited me is "only a couple bucks", I wonder what the cumulative total overcharge (-- assuming there is a systematic error ongoing --) might amount to over a year of unchallenged billing practices?

Perhaps it's all just an innocent computer programmer's oversight, i.e. unintentional...and, if so, buycomp eventually will graciously refund its customers any and all accidental/unintentional overcharges on sales tax.

Yes, is Buycomp passing on the "extra" sales tax collected to the respective states?

Inquiring minds want to know.

I just got the RAM today. It's the CT16M64S4D7E!!!
It's PC133 CAS2. My computer's gonna be so happy with this new memory. She's gonna love it.

JD- You bring up good points. I wish there was an easier way to resolve this. Maybe if enough people complain about this ... they'll make changes. Thanks for the heads up, though. I'll give them a call.

buy.com prices are already some of the best on the 'Net, and with coupons and free shipping, there is no need to haggle over a couple bucks in sales tax (7.25% of $30).

I don't think buy.com is doing anything wrong.. I see the discount as a partial payment. Think about how cell phones are charged.. although the retailer claims "free" or what have you, by law, the merchant is required to charge sales tax on the full retailer price.

FYI, I live in CA and I'll still shop buy.com when they have deals.
