I just bougt a 19" CRT monitor a little over a month ago and I just now noticed what appears to be a dead pixel. It doesn't move with the resizing of the screen or change place when set to different resolutions. I called the resaler and he said that it was probably a dead pixel and that they could fix the monitor.

My question is Do CRT's get dead pixels? And Can they be fixed?

I've never heard of CRT's having what I hear is to be true with LCD's and I know that if an LCD does get a dead pixel it Cannot be fixed, that is why I ask.

Thanks

I don't think CRTs can get dead pixels, but I do believe they can get dead phosphors, which is similar.

CRT monitor are susceptible to dead spots, there are no "pixels" on a monitor. If the dead spot stays within the image and moves when you move the image, the problem is most likely with your video card memory not the monitor.

On shadow mask monitors there are phosphor dots one red, green and blue that make up what is called a triad. In AG monitors there are stripes of phosphor. If one of these dots is missing or damaged or a small section from an AG stripe is missing, a small dark spot can be seen. CRT's can have dead phosphor spots, however they are not as common as dead spots on LCD monitors. If the spot bothers you, call the manufacturer and try to get another unit. However if your unit looks good otherwise and you are happy with it there is no guarantee that the next one will be better. Monitors are like fingerprints, and no two are alike.

CRT's cannot be fixed. In fact no manufacturer that I know of even replaces them anymore. Units is scrapped and used for parts or re-sold as a refurb.
