Crt What to do?

My monitor is starting to crackle more and more, shoot it's probably gonna go up in flames or something.🙁

I just don't know what I should do...I bought the samsung 997df and returned it, the quality was ****. I then thought about getting the NEC FE771...but then I read it can't do text very well so it's not the little brother of the FE791 I'm thinking. I then thought about getting a used FE991. I then read comments on how the quality was absolute **** from a lots of people. So I'd think the build quality of NECS isn't very good, tons of people's started crapping out in only a year, which cannot be a coincidence. I'm stumped about what I should do...I don't really want to get a shadow mask, every single model it seems has a nasty distortion underneath the screen. Plus the colors aren't as good as an aperture grille. The viewsonic A90F+ is a good monitor(for a shadow mask) but that has some serious quality problems as well...I've used it a good bit and the screen will not remember the settings at all and it is a very common problem. Warranty is only one year...

With a price limit of around 200 with should I do? I've thought about getting a factory refurb but... I just don't know. Buying offa ebay seems risky and the refurbing process isn't done by the manufacturer, as far as I know...

Reading reviews I think it's kinda obvious that manufactueres have done everything to cut the manufacturing costs of crts. I mean the 997 had freaking rinkles underneath the screen cause they couldn't be bothered with putting on the anti-glare screen on right? I mean wtf...inexcusable...crt build quality should be getting better not worse...😕

www.monitorsdirect.com

I got my 900NF from there and they were VERY understanding and crossed shipped 2wice (next day 😱 ) at no cost to me when my monitor was acting up. I think they also sell refurbs... best place ever in terms of customer service and fast action when something does not work right IMO of course.

I bought a Samsung Syncmaster 793mb 17" flat screen from Best Buy about two weeks ago (159.00). So far I really like it.

My 997DF is working great. Granted, it's no professional-level monitor that can do 2048x1536 at 85Hz, but it's perfectly fine at 1600x1200...
Anyway, as for your question, I don't think you're going to get a "super quality" monitor like you insist you have to have. From my understanding of CRTs, NEC/Mitubishi are the best there is, and the Diamondtron monitors are the top of heap; of course, that monitor is something on the order of $800, so you get what you pay for. And as for finding refurbs, the only thing I could think of is NewEgg, but I don't know if they do monitor refurbs.
