CRT Vs LCD. Despite the size differences and the hype, i've looked at LCDs and frankly, i'm not all that impressed. They look like thick laptop screens with expensive price tags. Ok i know that the pixels don't fade and lose brightness over time like with an CRT, and it doesnt give you the eyestrain of a CRT, but other than that, can anyone else comment on the difference? The 21" CRT's actually seemed to look BETTER than the LCDs.

And one other point....Those who have 15" or 17" LCDs....doesn't it feel like you have this EXTREMELY small screen? I mean, i can't imagine how people at a 19" CRT can move to a 15" LCD. I realize there's "actual screen size" differences, but surely not 4"?? Comments?

Basically everything you said is true.. CRT will generally 'look' better than LCD's (cept in geometry), although how long you can look at the screen for without your eyes dying is a major factor in a buying an lcd.

Those with 17" CRT have slightly more viewable than a 15" LCD .. so i'm guessing a 17-18inch LCD is comparable to a decent 19" CRT.

You forgot to mention the response time of LCD's, still quite poor compared to CRT's, meaning gaming or video is still not up to scratch although FFD lcd technology should rememdy this soon (hopefully)

;) Yup LCDs aren't worth it for the vast majority of people. Their price is the first major downside although brightness, response time and poor multi-resolution ability all hurt them too. If you work almost exclusively in Windows in a set resolution (which happens to be the LCD's native mode) esp for long periods of time then an LCD is very cool indeed. If you want gaming, video etc it is a very poor and expensive substitute for a CRT. As LCD technology moves forward the screen sizes will go up, the prices will come down and many of the short-comings will be addressed, but IMHO it'll be at least 4 years before LCDs become viable for mainstream users. It is surprising CRTs are still the most popular display device as the technology is really still based around 1950's type technology, not what people in the 80's thought we'd still be using in 2002 let alone the sci-fi 1960's!
