CRT Screen Jerking to the Left

Like the title says. I bought a used Sony CPD-G500 for hundred bucks, and it seemed to be in perfect condition for the first month or so. Now, every once in awhile the screen jerks momentarily to the left, so rapidly it's almost unnoticeable. Is this a hardware problem? Is the damn thing about to die? If so, is there anything I can do to prevent that?

Is there anything nearby the monitor like speakers or tv? Some sort of magnetic field may be causing interfearance.

Thanks for the bump. Nah, it's not an EMI thing, the space around the monitor is pretty clear. There are two things I'm mainly worried about: one, that this 70lb. beast puts out 200 watts and was shoved into a constricted space, possibly cooking some of the components (although even cooled off the problem persists); two, I've been overclocking the snot out of my watercooled video card for a few months now (9800 Pro @ 465/380) and it might be on the fritz.

Man, if this thing dies within two months of me buying it my fiance is going to have a field day....

Nope. That's the risk you take when you buy a high-end 21" trinitron for a hundred bucks from some design firm that was going out of business. (Thanks, Craigslist!)

Does the monitor kinda dim when this screen jerks? My girlfriend's 17" Dell CRT does that too, but I believe it's power-related.

Is your monitor hooked up to a UPS? Its own power socket?

Never thought about the power issue, but its certainly possible. The wiring in these old Manhattan apartment buildings ain't exactly stellar. But if that was the case, you'd think the problem would've cropped up earlier. Then again, maybe I just didn't notice until recently because I've been peering into the screen while messing around with the copious color/geometry/convergence controls that Sony included. Lemme tell ya, a few reviews mentioned that this thing was overkill for consumer use, and I'm beginning to get the point -- just tweaking all of the options practically requires the full version of Displaymate, and maybe even (gasp!) the manual.
