CRT or LCD for games?

Are LCD monitors up to speed for games? Need to get another monitor and am debating a 19" CRT vs 18" LCD. Don't know much about LCD technology though. Any thoughts?

Most of the newer LCD's are ok, but there are ones that excell at games if you do your homework. CRT's are still the best and cheapest option for most users, especially if you don't mind having a 19"-21" screen.

But even the best LCD's cannot match a much cheaper CRT games wise.. just too much ghosting, low contrast levels (hell if you play dark lit games). So if you play games, get a CRT, if you use it for more "professional" resons (i.e. non-games) a LCD is much better on your eyes.

The Planar LCD's seem to work fine for games. I did not notice any difference going from my old 19" CRT monitor to my 18.1" Planar LCD, even in high action FPS games like Quake III and Medal of Honor.

I would vote for a CRT.

CRT?s have better color gamut (saturation), and do not suffer from light bleed trough on dark backgrounds like many LCD?s. CRT?s are fully scaleable to any resolution your game happens to change to, unlike LCDs that will degrade the image if you run off its native resolution. CRT?s will not ghost, some LCD?s will show some amount of ghosting or trailing. CRT?s will perform better if you want high FPS. LCDs tend to run at low refresh rates.

i believe some of the newer lcd's run at 85hz (or at least, the crystals can switch 85 times a second, I dont remember if its called refresh rate on lds's...) at 1024x768, which really isnt bad at all for gaming, or on your eyes... Although I would personally prefer a high end crt if the space is sufficient

I defintely prefer a CRT over an LCD for gaming.

Thanks folks, great information. I had heard that LCD may not perform as well as CRT, but was not sure. Hopefully, LCD will get to that point soon. Looks like almost there. Thanks!
