CRT Monitor short-circuited

My monitor short-circuited, it happened when I was loading the Half-Life 2: Substance Mod. The "secondary load short-circuited" apparantley, whatever that is.

Could this mod have somehow made my monitor short-circuit? This seems impossible but I have to ask as I'm afraid to try the mod again?

A short-circuit is a physical change. There is ALMOST no way in hell that a progam could make your monitor short circuit.

If computers have taught me one thing, it's "never say never".

Sure you didn't just get some really stupid virus (that fakes BSODs, whatever else)? Where did you see that message? I never knew monitors showed that on their OSD.

Oh, no, the monitor didn't display that message, the LED blinked orange like 8 times and it said on the NEC website that that means there was a secondary load short-circuit.

Maybe something got loose/disconnected or broke inside the monitor? The game wouldn't have caused a short circuit, at least not directly. Even if you overdid settings in PowerStrip a bit I don't think it would "short circuit" it. I think it's something mechanical that just so happened on the spot.

Nope, it defaults at 1024x768.

Ok, I'm using my secondary monior now and I tried the mod again...works fine. The monitor that short-circuited was better than this one too. So it was just a coincidence. :)

Ask the people in Highly Technical forum they'll probably know what that message means and whether you can fix it yourself. Not seeing hardly anything on google about it.

I thought we're not supposed to ask troubleshooting problems there...

I didn't mean troubleshooting, I meant more what the message itself actually means in terms of electrical components. But anyway this seems to be related. I think your "flyback transformer" is bad, or something like that.

Here too:

* In some cases, the pinhole or crack is an indication of a more serious
problem - overheating due to shorted windings in the flyback or excessive
secondary load.

Out of curiousity where on NEC's site did you find the diagnostic messages?

Edit: And did you notice anything at all weird prior to the blinking? Did it just shut off and do that?
