CRT Monitor Problems

I'm not exactly sure when this started, but I recently noticed that my monitor was twitching noticably when idle in Windows. This problem started with my old rig, so I figured it had to do with the video drivers, but now the same problem appears on my new rig, even after updating drivers. The thing is, when I load the monitor controls from on the monitor those do not twitch with the rest of the screen. Is my monitor shot or is it something else?

Can you describe this "twitching" in more detail?

I think the same thing is happening to my Viewsonic 21PS. Occasionally, the image will shrink by about 1/4" on each side. But it only happens for a split second. Sometimes this happens a couple times. Sometimes it repeats for several seconds.

This happens whether I'm in Windows 98, Windows 2000, or DOS. I should try to see if this happens when I turn on the on-screen menu.

I have a sinking feeling that this monitor might be on it's last legs. It's too bad because I've had it for 10 years and it's run strong for all that time.

Maybe I'll hold out for the Dell 2405FPW.

I have seen this behavior on my Sony G500 21" Trinitron when I use the regular 15-pin D-type VGA input. It does not exhibit this behavior when I use the 5BNC inputs instead. The quality of the signal (as limited by the cable and connector setup) matters, I guess.

Glad my G500 had 5BNC inputs..

I don't think I have anything around the monitor that would interfere with it.

Collector, that sounds like what happens to my monitor. I am using a 3 year old Dell M991 CRT and this twitching has been occuring more and more frequently.

I think my monitor only has one type of input. Damn, maybe it's time to start looking for a new one?

The problem has been getting a lot worse the past couple of days. Do you guys have any ideas or do you think it's time for me to shell out for a new one?

You can do what I'm doing: waiting for the Dell 2405FPW to come out.

After 10 years I feel that my Viewsonic doesn't owe me anything. It's worked fine and I'm willing to spring for a replacement. Your monitor is only 3 years old and it sucks that you would have to replace it now.

If you don't want to buy a new monitor you might look into having yours repaired. But this might cost almost as much as a new 19".

My KDS 19" CRT is doing the samething.

I think its dying, but I can't say for sure.
It "tend" to happen on coldstart. But the image stablized quickly after 10 minutes of usage.

Any ideas?

Yeah I don't know anymore, maybe it's the cable? Does anyone have a spare monitor cable they can use instead and post the results?

I'm getting the same thing and my monitor is only 2 years old! (Viewsonic P75f+) It was twitching ALOT last week but not alot lately. Perhaps it is some solar flare activity or something.

The amount of twitching does vary a lot with me too. Maybe our computers are telling us it's time to go LCD.

My thinking exactly "LCD"

However, it is weird that Monitor twitch more in cold star
It definitely not the CABLE. My monitor has both a 15pin RGB and ..Component Type of BG... Input.
I try both connection, and both twitches
