i just bought a 19" viewsonic and when i play a game like BF 1942 i can barely see anything cuz its so dark, along with all my other games too.

i just found out that a pin is missing from the plug, would this cause the problem im having?

not necessarily, not all 15pins are needed for the monitor connection. is it new or 2nd hand?

if the display is ok on the normal windows desktop then it's probably due to the game settings which are often defaulted to very dark settings. I personally always find that I have to go into the game setup screen and adjust the default settings

Yep, Uncle Bob is right. Not all of the pins are required. Pins are usually bent or twisted but not pulled out when damage does occur to them. Check either the gamma settings in the games themselves or the display properties.

well i really dont think that gamma is the problem because whe i switched back to my old future power monitor all games looked fine, and all the brightness settings are turned all the way up on the games and the monitor

i got it used

If the monitor has its own settings for brightness. turn it up. I myself have 2 pins missing on my connector and have had no problems.

the monitor could be dying. CRTs fade and become dull and listless as they die.
