Iveeeedon a bit of research now and I'm still a bit confused on the whole LCD/CRT (for gaming) thing. I'm expecting a new SLI system in January and wanted to know If these NEC/Mitsu (or other) 21" CRT's have the DVI hook ups? I know most LCD's have them. If getting a new system as I'm getting and buying a 21" CRT with 15 pin D-Sub, isn't that not getting the "most" out of the system? Meaning using "older" 15 pin technology and not utilizing the DVI.

Maybe I'm missing some important piece of info here on the DVI/15 pin D-Sub that I'm not seeing things too clearly. Any help here would be extremely appreicated!

DVI = Digital Video Interconnect.

CRTs are NOT digital, they are analog.

CRT's are analog devices. The DVI interface cannot be used with CRT's.
Welcome to the forume!

I have never seen a CRT with a DVI connector. That doesn't make much sense anyway.
All that I'm going to say is that if you can handle the more or less fixed resolution of the LCD, the refresh rates on the good LCDs are adequate for gaming. I used 20" Dell flat panels with 3D modeling software and thought that they wouldn't be good enough for when I rotate the models. However, they are excellent.

CRT's are still superior to LCD's in some ways. IMO, LCD's are not quite prime time yet. Getting close though.

NEC/Mitsu Diamondtron CRT rocks. The problem with LCDs and gaming is the response time (measured in milliseconds). The cheaper LCDs have higher ms response times which can cause a lag in the display which looks like horizontal lines coming across your screen (horizontal tearing). The newer LCDs have a lower response time and work better for FPS games. But IMO go with the CRT if you have the room for it. I have the 19" version of the Diamondtron and I love it.

Thats wrong.. tearing is not affected by response time. Tearing would be the result of vsync not being enabled ( I dont use vsync with my lcds either becuase it would cap the fps at 60 due to the lcd's 60hz). Response time would show affects such as blurring when fast motion is on screen, or trailing behind a moving object. Newer lcds are pretty damn good. I have 2 2001fps and I'm pretty happy with them now.

Are there even any lcds that can go outside of native rez and not have very nasty artifacts? Not that I've ever seen...
