CRT ghosting

Model is AOC 9G 19''. I've had this since late 2001.

If the screen is black (for example whilst joining a server in CS:S) and I move the white mouse cursor around, it's almost like a smoother version of the mouse traces function in Windows. It ghosts. This also happens with things such as bright torches in games and such.

Is the monitor supposed to be like this, or has it been damaged? It's been moved around a bit, and maybe bumped into a cardoor but...?

I think this is the phopshors glowing too long. I'm not sure, but I thought I read somewhere that they can do this when they get older.

This is not a symptom of aging. But in fact yes, there are differences between monitor models in how long-glowing the phosphor is. Longer-glow tubes flicker less at low refresh rates, while quicker ones are obviously sharper on quick motion.
Back in the days, when computing meant staring at a green-on-black (or amber-on-black) character display with 50 Hz refresh rate, "slow" CRTs were teh sh*t, the ultimate in ergonomics. If you didn't scroll around too much, that is.

So simply based on this, I shouldn't worry about it "dying"? Because I just spent a good $1200 on a completely new [chassi internal] rig, and my wallet needs a good rest.

I will persevere with the ghosting itself for now, I'll probably get a good LCD later on. OLED sounds nice but that's years away from being mature tech.

I get that too, but my monitor is refurbished and maybe a little old. But it makes sense that it is normal. New models may just have different phosphors.
