How come 60hz on a LCD looks flicker-free still? Or is refresh rate not really an issue on LCDs?

LCDs do not refresh like CRTs. I can't even tell a difference on my LCD between 60hz and 70hz. Basically CRTs redraw the screen constantly, hence the flicker. LCDs don't, so they don't flicker at all. Thats why even if I set my 2040u or G520p to a high refresh the image on my LCD still seemed much more "solid". Solid is the only way I can really think to describe it, but its due to the lack of flicker.

. I am not even sure exactly what the refresh rate on an LCD measures, lol.

It's not the CRT, in fact an LCD would be worse at this issue because it has more brightness. It is just that you don't blink enough times.

CRT monitors will make me sleepy..lcd flat panels I stay wide awake..could it be the refresh rate?
No probably because LCDs are brighter.

Same here, been staring at CRt's for over 8 years now. I'm using an UltraSharp 2005FPW at the moment and staring at it when I'm tired makes my eyes hurt a little, probably cause of the brightness, even though it's at 0.

I think as long as your crt is in top working order and calibrated correctly with a high refresh rate it will be fine on the eyes. The great thing about lcd's though is their perfect geometry and focus. I upgraded to a 19" lcd from my 21" sony g500 crt and my eyes feel much better and I get a lot less headaches. My crt was 5 years old though and starting to have focus problems at different parts of the screen which is one of the main reasons. From what I've read a typical lcd will last longer and won't suffer from the image deterioration crts have, especially large crts. I'm hoping this is true anyway as I spent $600 on this sony hs94p lcd and would like it to last many, many years.
