I might be getting a LCD 19inch screen but I already have a lovely 19inch LCD. I was wondering If I can run these as a dual screen.

So that I could play games in the CRT and do work or read browse chat in the LCD?

Is this possible and would it work with any card that had both a DVI and D-SUB connection or would I need a special card?

Thanks for the info.

I don't know why it wouldn't be practical. My Gainward Ti4200 GF4 has both the standard VGA-out and DVI-out on the card. I am currently running in dual mode with a 19" CRT and 17" CRT.

Unsure about the ATI cards, but I would think it would be easy to find one with VGA+DVI on the same card.

what I mean is displaying to a CRt and a DVI at the same time...I was wondering what issues if any there may be with sharing overall video card bandwidth and stuff like that or does 2D display take up very little?

Well of course that works fine. All you need is a card that runs truly separate channels on the DVI and CRT plugs (most do, some don't).

Bandwidth ... well yes, doing that consumes some video RAM bandwidth, but hardly an amount that will be noticeable on today's cards with their high clocked RAM.

As for which display your 3D games will end up on, this largely depends on the operating system and the games themselves.
Typically the 3D acceleration goes to the primary screen.
