I just got done watching the movie for the first time and have to say that I LOVED it - only wish I would've seen it on the big screen. A couple questions:

1- Why the name "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon"? How does it relate to the movie?

2- Why did the girl jump off of the bridge at the end?

I'm a little bummed that the guy got poisoned at the end, but oh well. An EXCELLENT movie overall. The backdrops were just plain gorgeous.

EDIT: Sorry for the spoiler! :frown:

1 - If a Tiger is crouching, you can't see his dragon. ;)

2 - I think she finally learned how to fly like that guy (forgot his name).

BTW - Thats IMO. Its probably wrong. ;)

Argghh ran across another spoiler again! I gotta stop clicking on movie related threads of which I haven't seen the particular movie :) (happened to me already with Traffic and The Usual Suspects, of all movies).

I just saw the movie last night too...I LOVE HDTV.

but anyways, crouching tiger hidden dragon is probably the literal translation from chinese and so it doesnt make complete sense in english...it just sounds nice for a movie title.

as for the girl jumping off, i was wondering why it had to end liek that too. but i think it's a fitting ending in that in leaves things inconclusive as to whether or not she will meet that dirty desert raider again. and if you know anything about the chinese culture, it's filled with tragedy and irony and so i think that has something to do with the ending as well.

GOOD MOVIE...

Maybe that girl wished that chow young fat was reborn? Don't remember the details of the movie, just remember how fake them walking on the walls and on the trees looked. But the sword fights were pretty nice.

crouching tiger, hidden dragon is a phase in chinese
that mean all the great ability people has not been seek out(or known by people)
for example
let say, when you look at 200 people in the park, it just all the average joe,
now you put the President of U.S.A, President of Russia, President of China, and all the europe President
in that group of 200 people walk in the park.
if you does not know what those Presidents look like, you will think them as average joe just like those 200 people in the park, and they are the crouching tiger, hidden dragon to you. because everybody knows that those president can do some seriously number on your A*S

2- the girl jump off that bridge, because the witch want to kill the girl with the posion needle, but the guy jump in front of her, and die. she feel guilty, that is why she jump, because if wasn't for her spoil temper, thing could be different.

*SPOILER*

The story actually contains three parts. This movie plays the second part. She doesNOT die from the jump. That's where part 3 comes in.
Part 1 is about the character Chow Fat plays...

I saw the movie and I thought it was absolutely awful. But then again - I think pretty much ALL movies made lately are awful.

Exceptions:

The Animal
Snatch

I saw the dubbed DVD version. the fight sequences were pretty good, but I found the story not engaging at all. i think it's probably b/c something culturally is lost when it came over to the US (or i missed the big picture)

i mean say there was an American movie about a special gun and one guy had, another guy stole it, and they spend an entire movie stealing it from one another meanwhile shooting others with, shooting each other with it, and also training each other how to use it, it would seem a little shallow and silly.

2) it relates to the part where that bandit guy tells her the story of that boy who jumped off the cliff and made a wish to have his parent alive again, so that's why she asked him to make a wish before she jumped.
