Crossover cable over 10M?

I'm in the UK, and I'm on the lookout for some crossover cable to connect two of these NICs. Trouble is, I can't seem to find any crossover cable (that is the type I need, right?) which exceeds 10M in lenght. Is 10M the limit or something, or am I just being unlucky in that I'm unable to locate any??

Thanks for any help 🙂

If you have the tools to make one I can send you the pin outs for it. Easy. Or if you have two RJ45 jacks you can make a 10 meter cable run and just put a 3ft cross over cable from the jack.

Thanks for the offer Cnuke 🙂 I found the following cable:

Belkin Cat 5 Crossover Cable - Grey 15m

would I just be able to go straight from NIC to NIC (the ones in the link above) with that, or would I need a Hub?

Sure Nic to Nic would be fine.

I did that before I got a hub and it works fine.

Not sure why, but it did run slower without the hub.

Glad you found one.

Thanks 🙂 so CAT5 is definitely ok, as long as it's crossover? What's the difference between CAT5 and RJ45 crossover cable? The CAT5 is available in 15m, but the RJ45 maxes out at 10, at least as far as I can find.

Which one should I use?

RJ45 is a connector type, not the cable type. They are both likely CAT5 or CAT5e. For reference, a telphone jack is RJ11. There is no difference in the two you mentioned except wires 1 and 3, and 2 and 6 are crossed.

Thanks ktwebb. I'm going to buy those cards and that 15M cable tomorrow and hook them up.

Thanks for the help, as always much appreciated 🙂
