I am trying to connect 2 XP machines together. Neither connected to the internet. Desktop is XP Pro adapter is 10/100 and the Laptop is XP Media Center with adapter Intel PRO/1000 PL. I set static IPs 192.168.0.1 and 0.2 connect the crossover cable name the connection crossover in both computers, turn off Windows Firewall. When I try to connect to the workgroup Windows says I may not have permission. When I ping I get timed out. What am I missing?
Thanks

You have to configure the Shrarings.

Successful Sharing involves some general consideration in Network settings,http://www.ezlan.net/sharing.html

As well as specific adjustment of each computer according to what it is allowed to be shared.

Vista File and Printer Sharing- http://www.microsoft.com/techn...evaluate/vista_fp.mspx

Basic XP - http://www.microsoft.com/techn...ntain/filesharing.mspx

Thanks for your reply Jack
I ran the windows network setup and enabled file and printer sharing. XP has the shared documents folder already. The problem seems to be that I can not access the other computer. The ping times out. I have static IP 192.168.0.1 and .0.2 sbnet mask 255.255.255.0 no Gateway (no router) simple crossover. Turned off Windows Firewall. I can't seem to figure it out.
Thanks Frank
