Crossing from Canada to the US

Some friends and I are thinking about a road trip down south of the border, and I thought I heard that you are not allowed to cross the border if you only have your G license, ( ie. We wouldn't be allowed becasue we only have our G2 license ). I'm not sure where or when I heard this though, if at all. Anyone know?

They'll let you cross with a G2 license, but you'll have to consent to a body cavity search. If you refuse, they detain you and send you to Guantanamo. 🙂

Graduated Licensing System.

Get your G1 at 16. Cannot drive on any 400 series highways, must have a driver with four years experience in car.
G2 one year later ( or 8 months if you take drivers ed ). Can drive alone. Some restriction ( ie. Zero blood/alcohol tolerence, some others i forget )
G one year after G2. Regular license.

WTF.... I hope none of that big brother socialism ever seeps south of the border.

If you're from Quebec, stay in Canada...If not, welcome, my friend. 🙂 You should be able to get through with your G2 license, but I'm not positive.

Hmm, interesting. I still only have a G2. Wonder who we can contact about this.

Please post what you find out.

😕 So you're happy with your current lax standards of letting pretty much any idiot drive a car wearing a couple of tons at high speed?

You might also care to note that in Germany, home to the infamous Autobahn, drivers go through an even more rigorous driver testing system than Canada's.

This G2 business has always seemed stupid to me.

One day you can't drink and drive, and get a new licence and you CAN drink and drive. My motorcycle licence is the same way.
