Is it worth it in a p55 chipset MB(In sig)?

I've read several places the second card doesn't get enough power in the second slot, I'ev never SLI or CF'd anything before so I'm a novice at this stuff.

You'll lose a few % performance over a 16/16 config, but it's not significant. Go for it!

According to egg they run 16x/4x. I'm not sure if 4x is enough for a 5770, it is my personal guess that 4x is enough for it, but someone else will have to say for sure.

Agree with Yuriman and Udgnim, 5770 crossfire will still run pretty well on that motherboard.

Nice system, OP. With everything else so high-end, surprised you didn't go for a 5850 straight up.

Thanks, was my first build, I'll admit I didn't do the GPU research like I should of, but I'm not mad at the 5770...I'll check out the 5850 though, have another box the 5770 could go into if I like it that much better.

edit* as yes I did look at that one, need more monies but it's definitely sick

bumping this up, I have some extra cash so the options now are get the 5770 to XFire in the X4 slot, or get a whole new card (thinking the 5850) and throw the 5770 in the x4 just for the second monitor (don't know what else I'd use it for)

Thanks all.

If you went 5850 I would just run both monitors off the 5850 and sell the 5770 in the For Sale/Trade forums. 2x 5770 is still a good option even with one at 4x. Tough call. Personally I have a 5770 I was planning to Crossfire for Eyefinity but would prefer to swap it for a 5850 instead for Eyefinity and then move to 2x5850 later.

fund wise it'd be a lot cheaper to just get the 5770, so I might still do that tbh.

Damn, that's a pretty tough decision. I would sell the 5770 and use that money towards a 5850. I don't like to mess around with multiple GPUs but other people seem to do fine with them.

Excellent advice. Grab one superior GPU, sell the other one to make back some of your money.

Is there a specific 5850\5870 that's strongly recommended, personally I like the XFX with their lifetime\double lifetime warranty.

Just get a reference model. It has the blower design that looks like this: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...732&CatId=3669 . Note that they might have a different sticker depending on what AIB partner you buy it from, but they'll all have the same quality components. If you buy something that looks different (it'll have a different heatsink/cooler design), you run the risk of either A) getting cheaper quality components for the same price or B) paying more for an "overclocker edition" marketed card that really doesn't do much more over the reference model (although there are a few exceptions to both these generalizations). XFX is good as long as you stick with a reference model, otherwise they're notorious for making cheap, non-reference designs that don't overclock as well or have other more serious issues.

2 x 5770 is faster than a 5850 though and in most games a little faster than a 5870 as well. Not sure how things start to fare once you overclock things though since both the 5770 and 5850 tend to OC a lot.

Higher FPS is not always better. I'm using Crossfire right now, and I still say if it's possible to get a single card to come close to the performance of two, you want the single card solution.
