Hi guys

Whenever I run D3 or Wow my graphic card's fan goes berserk. It'll still play the game nicely, but it does get a little inconvenient. Right now on newegg there is this "APPHIRE Radeon HD 6850 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX " on sale and I was wondering if i could set up crossfire with my current 4890 HD from sapphire. My PSU is thermaltake TR2 750w and my motherboard is gigabyte x58 (forgot exact model). Running i7-920.

Thank you very much

No. They are different chips and will not work together in crossfire.

If you are satisfied with the performance, check for any dust build up in the fan/heatsink. Blow it out with compressed air or clean it by taking the shroud off. HD4890 is generally a loud and hot card though. You can try lowering the clock speed manually to 750mhz see if that allows the fan to spin slower.

You cannot crossfire HD4890 with HD5000 or 6000 or 7000 series of cards. If you want more performance, if I were you I'd sell the 4890 and get an HD6870. It's a great bang for the buck card.

If your gaming performance is satisfactory but your computer is loud, I'd check temps of your card and air flow. Adding a new card in CrossFire wouldn't help with your problem, it would only make it worse since the fan intake for one of your cards would be partially blocked.
