Crossfire screen change

Rubycon

Madame President
I notice when a 3D app starts often the screen will "tumble" like a TV set with a bad horizontal hold. Picture rolls slightly, there's some banding then it goes steady.

Is this a synchronization with the two GPU's?

When running 3DMark06 it's noticeable and reproducible at the beginning of "Return to Proxycon". Anyone else with this board (or crossfire) see this?

Personally I think it's neat. Reminds me of the 3dfx spinning logo when the card "switched" on and the 3D graphics switched into overdrive!

I can't answer you question but you sure bring back good memories. The 3DFX days were the best. 2 Voodoo 2 12 meg cards in sli, those were the days.

Hehe yeah I had one of these.

24MB in a single slot. Kind of like the 3870X2 now. Sadly that Quantum board cost a LOT more than the 3870X2 but that's how it goes.

no that is not good 😛

i have seen it in my own CrossFire when something was messed up

So it's not normal? Everything seems to run OK. My 3DMark06 score went from 14,000 (8800Ultra) to 21,000 (approx) so I know it's working like it should. XP64 and Vista64 used exclusively. XP32 gets slightly higher scores but it discards 5GB of my ram too!

is it only in the very beginning and then it settles down?

i get something like that .... but for just an 'instant'

Yes very fast. If the resolution would change and the monitor is slow to display it would not be seen, for example. Less than half a second. It's a fast flash and that's it. But it's definitely there. I'll see if I can capture it on video.

i think it's OK ... i thought it was dramatic the way you described it and that lasted for 'awhile' 😛

i also get a momentary instability ... i assumed it was a normal synch-up between the 2 GPUs
