Crossfire questions.

I have a gigabyte 6950 2gb with a shaders only unlock and overclocked which is nice. It has the oem cooler on it. I am getting ready to make a new build (already ordered my i5 2500k) and I want to do crossfire but I can't find any vanilla oem style 6950 2gb. Is it going to be an issue if I buy one of the new OCed ones with the different coolers on them and run with my current one? Also what will happen if I just buy a 6970. Further, I have a Corsair tx650 PSU. Is that going to be enough to power two graphics cards, 8gb of ram and an OCed 2500k?

did you flash the 6950 to a 6970? If not two mismatched cards will be fine but they will run at the slower card's speed

Fine.

They will run at their own speeds unless you adjust the clocks separately or match them in Overdrive. AMD has has asynchronous clocking of the GPUs in CrossFire-X since 2900XT days. 😛
--Nvidia has the same feature in SLI for over a year.

No one addressed it, but I'm not sure that PSU will be enough for those 2 cards if there's an OC involved and you end up pushing things in demanding games/apps.

I'd grab something a bit stronger.
