CrossFire questions

Sorry to ask, but I haven't followed the hardware scene much since a few months.

Simply asked ...

Is it possible to CrossFire, say, a X1900 XT (CrossFire Edition I suppose) with my current X1800 XL ?

Or do I need two of the exact same cards like SLi ?

The CrossFire setup requires only one Master card, right ?

Oh, and, yes I do know that my current Motherboard does not support CrossFire. I'm just asking, because if it'd be possible, then I might jump on the dual-GPU wagon. Still not sure though ... I might also just wait for G80/R600. But I am seriously thinking about it.

I think you need the same model, or at least the same generation like a 1900xt and a 1900xtx.

get a8r32-mvp and 2 1900xt, one master and one that support crossfire.

I believe it is possible to CrossFire, although if you have two different cards, the faster one will slow to the slower one's speed. For ATi, you would need one regular card and one CrossFire edition slave card.

x1800 and x1900's cant be crossfired since last i heard

why don't you search google? even ATi's site has a full faq and videos on installation! This is some of the worst spam i've seen here and we get way too much. Why do we put up with this?

This is AT video forum, questions on Video products is encouraged, threadcrapping is discouraged. The search feture is broken here, so these types of questions seem appropriate to me.

No, you need the same GPU family (X1800+X1800, X850+X850, X1900+X1900.......)

No, you can use 2 different cards from the same GPU family (X1800xl+X1800 CF, X1900XTX + X1900 CF, X800XL+X800 CF......)

The CrossFire setup requires only one Master card, right ?

*First Generation Crossfire (X800, x850) and Highend 2nd+ generation (X1800XT/XL, X1900XTX/XT) require a Crossfire Edition card (Master).

*2nd generation low end crossfire (X1300,X1600) and Xpress3200 crossfire (X1300/X1600/X1800GTO/perhaps XL as well) don not require a Crossfire Edtion (Master) card

*Next Gen Highend may have the logic in the core, so perhaps no Crossfire Edition card at all for R600?
