Crossfire Question...

I game at 1920x1200 atm on a 9600GT - actually handles things nicely with a mix of med/max settings, however i've got an itch to be able to enjoy some more eye candy and higher FPS 🙂

I'm considering upgrading to either a HD 4870 1gb or GTX 260 (216) both are about the same price in UK and am sure they offer pretty equal performance (dont really want to get into that whole debate) i favour neiether company and would just buy the best deal i can find.

My question is with reference to my MB's crossfire performance? Is it worth considering the HD 4870 so i can double up in the future (when prices have fallen even further) ?

I know that the second PCIe slot only runs at x4 and not the full x16 but i havent been able to find out how much this would limit things in 'real world' (i.e. games) applications.

If anyone can share some first hand infomation or point me towards some nice articles i'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks.

Umm i thouhgt u needed an NV chipset in order to SLi...?

Anyway - have done some deeper digger found a couple of older reviews where x4 is meant to be 25-30% slower than x16.

I wont let the possibility of xfire in the future effect my choice on gpx card 🙂
