Crossfire Question: Can I Connect DVI To Either Card?

I just picked up a second 4850 (1GB) to pair with my current 4850 (512MB). I got the 1GB 4850 for very cheap, which is why I'm pairing it with my 512MB card, even though this limits the total memory to 512MB.

I would like to run some benchmarks, testing performance between the 512MB card solo, the 1GB card solo, and the cards crossfired. To use one or the other cards solo, can I simply plug the DVI cable into that card, and disable Crossfire in the ATI utility options? Or can only the card in primary physical PCI-E slot be the one that has the DVI cable connected to it? Basically what I'm asking is whether I'll have to swap the cards' location in the motherboard if I want to alternate between using each of them solo?

What you ask should work fine.

You certainly won't have to open up the case at all but I have had issues getting the display to switch over correctly without a restart in the past. Though if you disable crossfire first then swap the cable the hot plug detection should work fine.
