Wouldn't it be sweet IF there were a GTO-2 master card? It would be a very cheap Crossfire solution with smashing performance unlocked to x850 xt. $400 dollar dual card setup that I could play at 60 hz on my 17 inch lcd(so the limitations dont matter to me, except for lack of sm3 and HDR on most apps). This is were nvidia's early adoption on those features was a good thing. I might just upgrade to that radeon xpress X-fire edition. I'm retty sure(hopeful) that the R520 doesn't have these limitations.

If you unlock the card to X850XT speeds that's about all you'd need to play games in XGA or SXGA resolutions anyway. (I'm assuming your LCD only supports 1280x1024 or less)

Not with 4xRGMS AA or 16xSSAA at Battlefield 2. I know RGMS AA would kill it. Or COD2 with AA, or FEAR, or anything next-gen. 1280x1024 isn't really a low resolution...
 
yeah my MAX res is 1280x1024, but FEAR kicks the crap out of my 6800 Gt at this res with full effect on. With dual GTO-2's I'm sure it would be a differnt story. So, bet with my setup which I'm sure there are a lot more 1280x1024 lcd's out there than any other size, this would be the cheapest and fastest dual card solution, and if you wanted to upgrade, get dual r520 which I bet would 86 all of those limitations. This would make investing in a cross-fire motherboard a smart decision.

ya it would be sweet but ATI is not dumb to make such a move lol!! you never know though i may be wrong 😉
 
I dont know if this would work, but couldnt you unlock the pipes and OC the GTO-2 to X850XT PE speeds and then give it a bios flash for a X850XT PE? Wouldnt that make the GTO-2 a X850XT PE so that you could then use it for x-fire?
