Crossfire and BF3 OK now?

I am planning on going 7950 crossfire. How well does AMD do with BF3 now and crossfire? I know in the beginning crossfire really sucked because of bad drivers. Has that improved? My main concern is micro stutter. Currently with my 560ti 2GB SLI setup I get no micro stutter that I can see.

bf3 is great in crossfire. I get 95-99% GPU usage at all times, using the 12.3 ccc. Also worked fine with rc11.

Alright then 7950 crossfire here I come...

Why bother with 7950 crossfire? i play BF3 "maxed" out graphics settings at 2560x1200 on a single Gybabite HD7970-OC-WF without any slow down and super smooth gameply.

No need for "two" HD7950 and if you must do crossfire at least do it with HD7870's .. you will cut your power usage and heat by heaps but only be about 5% off the HD7950's

Almost all HD7870 comes clocked by default at 1100Mhz making it even more atractive for crossfire.

Yeah but with only 2GB wouldn't that limit your settings? Like No Ultra AA etc...compared with the 7950's 3GB of ram

I run a couple 6950s unlocked to 6970 speeds and shaders at 2560X1600 with no problem. I don't think memory will be and issue yet.

dual oc'd 6950 != vsync on 120hz in bf3 all the time @ 1080p.

in eyefinity I can usuayyl stay above 50FPS with stuff cranked down to Med and just reg AA/AF turned on at like 4x

IMO a single 7970 1125 1575 should manage these settings with min fps around 45-60+ and avg a lot higher

1920 1080 ultra hbo 8x aa 4x msaa 16x af

Or

2560 1440 ultra hbo no aa no msaa 16x af

Perhaps min at 60+ Infact. So unless you want 2560 1440 with 8x msaa you don't need cf

I tried a 7970 and it would dip well into the 30's frame rate wise on maps like Caspian Border, where my 560TI SLI setup would go down to around 52-55.

My 2600k 4.3 + 7970 1125 1575 gives me a min FPS of 60s with 1920x1080 4x AA 4x MSAA Ultra everything max, avg is like 70s and 80s during fights.

This is of course single player.

A stock 7970 won't be good enough. If a stock 7970 gives you 37-39 FPS, an overclocked 7970 (near stock volts or stock volts) will give high 40s for the same situation, nearly a 10 FPS increase, or at least 7-8+ FPS.

So it is unlikely that you will get less than a 560 TI SLI especially if you are ready to go for after market cooling or preferably water cooling. If you are able to manage 1200-1250 on the core an a good mem clock, you should get comparable performance to 570 SLI or nearing 570 OC SLI :)

That is the other way I am thinking of going. 2 570HD 2.5 GB cards in SLI for 2560x1440 on ultra no AA

A 7970 at 1250 1600 will offer nearly as much performance without sli hassles. And this is possible with good air cooling or entry level water cooling at most
