crossfire 5870 + 6870?

I currently have a saphire Radeon 5870 and want to upgrade. Looks like setting uo crossfire would be my best bet rather than buying a new card.

I know you can use two different Radeon cards in crossfire, but I don't know if that applies to different series .. even though the 5xxx and 6xxx series are supposed to be the same.

So will a 6870 work with a 5870? Any have this setup currently?

I was under the assumption that you had to use the exact same model to get Crossfire (or SLI) working. No need to roll eyes.
