I own a 4890 and i am thinking about buying another one to use crossfire.
My question is do the two cards have to be from the same manufacturer?

Be sure to watch the temps early on. These cards get hot as hell... I'm not sure the automatic fan control is cutting it for my pair.

HD4890 CF scaling isn't as good as HD6000 series. So expect 70-80% scaling. How much is one of those cards used now, $90-100?

You may be better off selling your 4890 and upgrading to a GTX560Ti or HD6950. You'll get DX11 and both will be quieter too. The performance may not be as great as HD4890 in CF, but it'll be pretty close.

i've had one in fs/ft for a couple months and am having to dump it for $75 shipped...

you should sell the 4890 for whatever you can get for it and buy a newer dx11 card...
