I'm planning to add a new graphics card to my rig.

Is it possible to crossfire 4770 and 5770? What are the implications with regards to framerate and Direct X performance?

I believe you can crossfire two cards in the same generation. They don't need to be identical

First of all did the 4770 come with 512mb or 1gb...

Second, what res do you play at...

I found 5770 alone does very well even at 1920x1080, so unless you got a 30" screen I would just use the 5770 and forget about 4770...

No, but the cards need not be identical. Only the first two digits need to match. 48xx, 47xx, 57xx, etc. The higher speed card will drop to match the performance of the lower card.
