Hello,

I have had my "free" copy of Windows 64 sitting around for a couple months and finally have decided to install it. I have some problems now??? I have 2 hard drives, a seagate 7200.7 200 Gb and I just bought a seagate 7200.8 250 Gb for the new OS. I unplugged my 7200.7 (both drives sata) and proceeded with new windows install.

Formatted drive
Installed OS (initial blue screen)
Windows reboots and then gives me "error loading OS"... I have to go back to boot from CD and start over???????

Anyone know what would cause this.

EDIT

Ok... I left both hard drive plugged in and I select to intall the new OS on the 250 Gb 7200.8 Seagate (the old 7200.7 200 Gb drive has my XP Pro 32 on it. When I install now and reboot I get this error:

Windows could not install because the following file is missing or corrupt:

<Windows Root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe

What do I do now??? How to I get XP 64 to fix this error on reboot after installing to a new formatted HD?

Also... the 2 hard drives are show at bootup on a reboot (one with xp & one with xp64). The system has the xp64 highlighted by default and gives 0 seconds to select? How do I change how long I get to select a HD and how do I make XP 32 the default selected (for my wife)?

Thank you!!!!

Is the 7200.7 drive still unplugged? Or you plugged it back in after you installed x64 on 7200.8 drive?

Why did you unplug it in the first place? Are you trying to dual boot or are you trying run just the x64 windows?

Hi Doh.. I just didn't want to screw up & install XP 64 over my XP 32 (on the 7200.7) drive, just incase! I figured I would try XP 64 for a bit and see if I ran into any issues before jumping over. I left the drive unplugged so that all I had was a formatted (blank) 7200.8 drive to do a fresh install on?

If I plug in the old drive the machine will boot up into XP 32 but, XP 64 will never install or work?

bump... I accidentally updated my post in software and now just updated this post in OS forum. Please see original post's update (bold). Please help!~
