cross over cables...

stupid question...

from what i can tell, cross over cables are simply cables that one end is switched.... however they are like 1/3 the price of normal cables....

so would it work if you bought it, cut one end off, then switched the wires back, and then put a new end on?
also, if you link 2 crossover cables with a connecter thing, will that be a normal cable then?

yeah, i cross-over cable just has a different wiring pattern on one end. if you cut that end off and wired it the same as the other end (w/o, o, w/g, b, w/b, g, w/br, br) it would function as a normal patch cable. i don't know about connecting two with a coupler, i've never tried that.

And you if you use a coupler on two crossover cables it functions as a straight through cable. Those couplers though really can kill the quality so try to avoid them, particularly on long runs.
