Thursday, December 04, 2003 -- A new law which comes into effect in eight days in the U.S. is already creating disruptions along our shared border because as many as 1,800 customs agents are being trained to inspect food moving to the U.S. The U.S. post office is also stopping and destroying shipments of food by mail that don't have the approval of the U.S. Food And Drug Administration. And now we've learned our passports are no longer guarantees of certain international rights in the eyes of U.S. border agents.
The U.S. FDA website that lets Canadians register before they ship food south of the border can be found at http://www.cfsan.fda.gov/~dms/fsbtact.html

some of the items include maple syrup, and smoked salmon
