Cropping an image.

Need to resize a picture to 16:10 perspective but i'm not enitrely how to do so. Is there a way in photoshop? Or does anyone know any other simple applications that can do this?

Irfanview - good for just resizing an image, and it can do some cropping as well.

However, do you want to crop the image, resize it, or both?

I don't know about Photoshop, but GIMP has an option to set the H:W ratio of a boxed selection, and you can then crop according to that.



Edit: I just checked a few of the menus in Irfanview. Edit -> Create Custom Crop Selection. You can set an aspect ratio there.

I want to get the picture to the 16:10 ratio, its currently in 4:3, i realise i'm going to have to crop some pixels off but i'm not sure how many, nor do i want to sit down and actually calculate it.. So a little program, or instructions on how to do so in photoshop would be great.

It's a 1 step math problem... you make it sound like it would be complicated to figure it out

Did you try it? It's right there in the first link, you can enter the width and height.

Did you try it? It's right there in the first link, you can enter the width and height.

Yes, which will just squash the picture and not take pixels off?

Go to Image Size. Divide the width by 16, then multiply the result by 10. That will be your height. Click cancel and go to Canvas Size. Switch inches to pixels and enter the height. "Some cropping will occur" Click yes, there you go.

It probably is, and being an engineering student i should probably know, but i don't and i don't have the brainpower to make an attempt at working it out at the moment, Lol.

Since you know how would you be helpful and tell me how much i have to take off the height, and how to measure how many pixels i'm taking off.. The dimensions are 3072x2304..

If you want to take the top and the bottom off and leave the width alone, the new dimensions will be 3072x1920.

If you want to keep the part right in the middle, that means cropping off 192 pixels from the top and bottom each.
