Crop DivX Movies?

I'm fooling around with the DivX codec. Sames space on my HD.

I was wondering if I could crop a divx movie. I want to get rid of the letterbox black lines.

Does anyone know a way?

You can do it directly with FlaskMPEG during the encoding process, or with VirtualDub later on.

A tip: make sure you crop out all of the black borders. It's the hard transition between the motion picture and the border that consumes most of the bandwidth, not the mass area occupied by blackness.

If you want to do it with VirtualDub "later on" keep in mind that you would have to use Full Processing Mode which will re-compress your video file. Which is a no-no as far as quality is concerned. But if you *HAVE* to do it, you can lessen the effects of recompression loss, by doubling the bitrate.
