Crocodile Smiles...

I had a selfish, self-serving, egotistical, asshole of a boss.

Now the guy was always either really nice, or really selfish. But only about 5% nice. It's kind of weird. Everyone knows this and warned me.

This guy would sneeze and call out of work, because he owns the place, and I?d get stuck making things right in the store. Strolling in when he wanted, didn?t care for my schedule or what I did outside of work, as long as he got to do what he wanted.

Anyways, everyone knows the guys an asshole, and one day he blew up on me because I couldn't stay an extra hour at work because I had to get to school early to work on some things.

Mind you this is after I came in to work on everyday I had off, open early stay late etc. all without saying a word, I'm not afraid of work or money, but just understand sometimes I have other ****** to do.

So he goes off on me, and I get berated and scolded until I think he's going to pass out.

I think wow, this guy really is an asshole but I tuck it away behind a crocodile smile, submit and tell him I was wrong etc.

I say ****** like "At the end of the day you're the boss, and I'm the employee. What you says goes whether I like it or not!"

I diffuse the situation as much as it can be and slide past that little bump in the road, and that's what got the gears turning and crocodile smiles cracking.

So this all happened last fall. Now I worked there until today.

I?m basically the backbone of this guys store. Everyone loves me, because I work hard, I?m real nice, I?m an honest dude, but fvck me and I?ll fvck you. That?s a pet peeve of mine, when someone takes advantage of an honest person.

There?s countless other times he?s done other things that are just downright assholeish. But take my word for it, this guy is the king.

I can?t do no right bossman! I?m sorry just let me stay, I need the check, I?ll scrub the toilets, no questions and no confrontations! Need me to blow off class just so you don?t have to get out of bed an hour early? Ok no problem! Don?t need your blood pressure rising on us now!

I literally told him I don?t appreciate all the extra work he?s asking me to do with only an hour, and sometimes minutes prior knowledge, and them him acting like I?m fvcking him by not staying. Sometimes he?d even just stroll in whenever he wanted, like an hour and a half late and ****** up my whole day.

But it?s okay, you?re the boss!

So I told him I didn?t like that, and he told me maybe I should quit because he?d rather I don?t say anything at all so his blood pressure doesn?t rise. He literally said that. It doesn?t get much more selfish than that.

But at the end off the day you?re the boss, and I?m the employee!

So today, out of absolutely left fvcking field I dropped the bomb on him, ?Did I tell you, I start my new job soon!?!?!?

Wow, it feels good to be an asshole to an asshole.. Many, many, months in the making.

I?d like to thank everyone who made this possible, myself and months of crocodile smiles!

I don?t suggest anyone do this to any employer ever, I?ve never not given fair notice to an employer before, but hey, this guy obviously doesn?t play fair so you know, can?t beat em join em!

Oh the kicker is I live literally next door to his store. This will make for a totally sweet summer.

There's just so much more stuff to the story, I could write a book on everything, but that's the jist of it.

Plus I'm going to the private sector so I don't have to deal with customers anymore!

I worked in a package store and let me tell you, I will not sort anymore empty strangers beer bottles anymore or have to deal with beligerant drunks ever again!

I also have about 6 customers who said the day I leave is the day they stop coming in. Booyah!

why is your story written with one word paragraphs?

also why did you stick aroudn that long. You couldn't have disliked it that much if you 'submit' to his will and blow off class that often and didn't leave. If you're not afraid of work you could've gone anywhere else. Sounds like you did nothing to stand up for yourself and just burnt a bridge. Open the box: :gift:

haha oh yes I almost forgot!

His eyes glazed over which isn't an unfamiliar sight, then he started getting really, really red and his voice started stressing, then he just all out started shaking like crazy.

I thought he was gonna blow up. I said a few smartass comments before I left and told him I'd be there to pick up my check at the end of the week.

I'm not sure he heard any of what I said because he was just going off on how selfish I am.

Nah I wasn't gonna flip out, I was gonna let him do that.

You have no idea of the responsabilities I had, trust me I was literally the backbone of his store.

He will be feeling this for the next 6 months until he can get someone to the level I was at.

I ran EVERYTHING.

Easier to read.

Some people don't have the luxery of just walking out of a job, I actually have bills to pay.

But they say revenge is a dish best served cold, and I totally agree!

Holy sunshine and days off here I come!

are you 15??? You can't find a job that pays as well as a package store? If I wasn't happy at a job like that on Day 1, by Day 3 i could find at least 20 jobs that pay as well

Welcome to life. Deal with it. And yes, even though it felt good to you and the guy likely deserved it, burning bridges can ALWAYS come back to haunt you in ways you can't possibly imagine.

The thing is, the boss is correct in many of those cases. It is his store, he CAN come and go as he pleases. If you own your own store, you too can come and go as you please.

Of course, if doing so pisses off your employees/customers, and thus your buisness fails, that is also your right as a boss. They live and die by the sword. A good boss will recognize this and choose to wield the sword sparingly if at all. But you seem to incorrectly think they don't have the right to wield it at all.

I see we have the combination of a bad boss and a bad employee here.

Unfortunately I disagree.

If you tell me to work, 9 to 3, and then have a problem when at 3:15 that day you ask me to stay until 5, and I say I can't because I have other obligations, tough sh!t.

Should have planned ahead the 3 other days you did this to me and I stayed without a problem.

I don't care if he's the boss or not, you have to give atleast 24 hour notification of schedule changes on both ends.

Just because it's his store it doesn't mean he can schedule me to 3, and show up 2 hours later and think sh!t is sweet.

If you allow your boss to do this too you, or think it's okay for a boss to do so, I'm sorry.

Yea 15 years old and running a package store... Anyways...

It worked well with my schedule, one more than a few levels.

Sometimes you have to sacrifice things, I know, I know, hard to believe for someone as smart, well off, and socially organized as a person of your cool stature, but some of us are regular working class people who go to school, enjoy fishing, and actually having a life outside of work.

I apologize for my failure to be exactly in the same position as you socially.

I'll work on that though, maybe quit school so I can have more time looking for jobs that require a degree... from... school... oh wait... shut up.
