So, its over 2 years since I last built a rig and I felt the upgrade bug come and bite me in the rear.

I'm going to get an Antec 900 case from a friend of mine, so I wont change it since I'm getting it for free :D

the rest of the main components are:

Gigabyte P35-DS4 MB
Q6600 (After pricecuts)
TR120 Extreme Cooler with a decent 120mm fan here (need recomendations, it needs to be quiet)
2GB PC6400 Corsair Value RAM
2x 400GB HDD non raid (manufacturer not decided yet, needs to be quiet and reliable)
NEC 7173 PATA DVD RW (Dont really want to go SATA yet as I've heard some issues about them)
PNY GeForce 8800GTX GPU
600W PSU (Need recomendations here aswell, pricerange 100-130US, modular is a requirement)

Sorry if it doesnt seem very coherent atm but I need to catch the train, will check in on this later tonight or tomorrow morning.

As you were :D

Why the DS4 instead of the DS3R?
Good choices, perhaps go for 2x500GB drives, a better spot for GB/$ a lot of the time. Western Digital 7200 KS model would be fine - WD5000KS I think is the model, or a Seagate Barracuda 7200.10. Read the storage review anandtech did recently. Go for a Corsair HX 520W or 620W, they're modular and powerful and reliable enough.

By the way, there's nothing wrong with SATA DVD drives; most of them are just the exact same PATA drives with a different connector.

If you're overclocking, maybe get a set of DDR2-800 (PC2-6400) RAM sticks that isn't value RAM from whatever's on offer on newegg when you're buying.

If you get a pre-overclocked video card not only are you paying the manufacturer for something you can do yourself, but with EVGA only the vanilla cards are eligible for the step-up program.

I like the heatpipes :)
2x500GB wont give me better bang for the buck where I live. I live in sweden and as of now, best bang for the buck seems to be the 400GB drives. I will add another drive in the future for more storage of my DVD collection. Most likely a 1TB or similar, but as of now I just want the base system done so I can start benching and game on it, but I'll definatly have a look at the drives you suggested. Who knows, they might be more affordable for me in a month or two.

AS for the corsair PSUs. yeah I had a look at them and they seem to be the ones for me. For those of you who owns this PSU. How are the power cables? Long and Nice? Cause I want to be able to hide the cables and not just lay them across the motherboard.

When it comes to SATA DVD. I know that they're basicly a PATA DVD with a SATA connector but I've still heard people having issues with them. Dont ask me why but I'd rather play it cool right now and eventually upgrade to a SATA drive later off then, its only 30 bucks or so.

I appreciate the help so far. ITs slowly coming together right now. I'll bump this thread when the system has arrived with pics and benhes :)

Fair enough. I am going to get an SATA drive so I can finally free up my precious second IDE port and stick an old hard drive in ;).

Do you really need a quad core? what stuff do you plan on doing with this computer?

Scythe S-FLEX is a good fan, or get something like a Yate Loon DSM if you want to save money. get better ram for sure. Look at getting something like the Crucial Ballistix PC2-6400 DDR2-800. It's on sale at mwave.com and newegg.com.

Umm Personally for a HD i would go for a seagate barracuda HD 7200.10. The 320GB and 500GB are both reasonably priced. Please do yourself a favour and get the corsair 620HX PSU. It is amazing. Pioneer 112-D burner is excellent. I dont like the NEC's because i had huge problems with the 3550A. I have 2 sata burners btw and they both work perfectly.
