Critque this System Spec. Comments/Sugguestion Welcomed

This is a build for one of my friends, since I haven't been keeping up on lastest/best MB out there. What are your sugguestion on the list of computer parts below.



Mainboard: Abit KG7-RAID AMD 761, 266fsb, ddr
CPU: athlon xp1800+ 1.53ghz @ 266 fsb
CPU Fan: Thermaltake Dragon Orb 3 Decent HSF??
Ram: 512mb PC-2100 DDR SDRAM
Harddrive: 40gig Western Digital from my current comp for now.
floppy: Panasonic Floppy
dvd: Panasonic 16x DVD-ROM
Case: antec SX1030 mid tower 300w
Video: Hercules 3D prophet gf2 titanium 64mb
sound: Hercules game theater xp
modem: USR 56K

well...i think you have plenty of other options for the m/b...ECS/Leadtek SIS 735 based.....or a MSI KT266A board...:)

All of that equipment looks fine to me. However, if you want the best of the best I might go with a KT266A based board. The Shuttle AK31A and the EPoX 8KHA+ are all the rage, and with good reason. Both are exception overclockers at pretty good prices. The KG7 is good too, of course. However, I think these other boards are slightly faster and more stable. I would also change the heatsink/fan. If you plan on overclocking, the Thermalright SK-6 is about as good as you can get. If not, just look at the list of AMD recommended heatsinks. Find the cheapest one for the 1800+, and strap it on. Or, get a retail box. The OCZ Gladiator is also a nice heatsink. Another goody is the Vantec 6035-D. You have some choices, now go and build! Hehe.
