So what's the problem here other than you care what others think? Maybe you should cut the cord to the others that have disagreement to anything that you do or errr, don't do.
I have a line I draw with people, family included and even my mom knows that crossing that line does more harm than good cause I'll cut the cord right then and there.

I'm not losing any sleep over this. I just thought it odd for folks I work with to behave like this. This post, although referencing my own situation, is more to remind folks and to recognize that there are many people who suffer through the holidays. There is a better way to treat them and I can actually empathize with their situations.

I agree with drawing lines in life. I call it not having clutter physically or with dealings with people....keep things simple and avoid drama.

I don't get why not taking part is stigmatized.
I don't care to get worked up into a fit every fucking year over stupid shit like everyone else. I'm way too chill for this shit.

For me all holidays are just another day anyways. The only good thing about them is time off work lol.

Having a tough time this year myself, but I'm hanging in there. (not easy)

Try to make the best of what you do have instead of focusing in whats missing & remember what Christmas is really about.

And try to have a Merry Christmas anyway. :)

I usually do buy a few gifts for kids and donate to the Marines Toys for Tots program but that's been the extent of my celebrations for many years now. I suppose I haven't given it up completely. I'm hoping this next week flies by.

Sounds like you still have some to me. Keep on doing what you're doing, giving to others. That's what it's about. Anyone that has negative things to say, well...they're not helping, and tell them that.

Sorry to hear about the divorce after 25 years....You have every right to be bummed out.

Merry Christmas, dude.

My question is, are people REALLY giving you shit or are they teasing and don't understand how it feels to you? My coworkers do the same shit to me because I have a new house and didn't decorate, but they were just poking fun for funs sake. If you told them how hard this is for you then maybe they'd stop.

No one is being mean or truly offensive....they just don't get it and I'm not telling them how rough it is for me. I don't want to be that guy.

OP, find a charity kitchen and go volunteer to help. You'll be active and doing something constructive with other, good-hearted, positive-minded people. Food is an elemental and communal experience: breaking bread. Doing good for others, no matter how small, can help get you out of yourself.

It will also help you focus on what you have, as opposed to what you have lost. Life is SO much about attitude.
