It sucks.

You have to click on some stupid unmarked black square toenter the site, and then the links are some stupid colored shapes? How the hell do I know where those go.

When I say no content I really mean no content :) Just having fun with the rollovers and such. I've checked it in NS, Opera, Mozilla, and IE.
When completed, other links on the main page (such as the yellow square) will make text show up on the right (quotes, lyrics, or whatever).

The alt tells what they are. It is just my personal site so I am not concerned with stupid people not being able to find their way around.

Not everybody moves their mouse over everything on a page. I would at least put a label there.

*sigh* no one seems to like it much. I'll try to get some content up and make the navigation less confusing and get back to you. Any other suggestions for now?

Since you just wanted comments on the overall site design, I like it. Not the normal template stuff that you usually see.

well, i think the layout/color choice is sweet... very clean

i know it's a personal site, but dude, if you're gonna show it off, label the link on the first page... at least show that there's something more than just a logo

I like the design, but the entrance and navigation stuff needs some work. Just having image ALT tags doesn't cut it. You need at least a rollover or something that pops up below the image when the mouse is over it. Something to tell the user what they're looking at other than the ALT tags.

It's a good design, but it needs a little work as far as functionality goes.

To the contrary I think that the layout is, very positively diffrient, therefore I like it....

I like it, it's funky. Now you need to add some richness to the background to counterpoint and accentuate the harsh angles on the geometrics.
Nice start.

Any suggestions for what to do with the background?

First off, I'd brighting the colors of the icons up top, too muttled IMO.

Second, keep with a white BG, continue the use of your 1px black line to break it up into columns and sections.

Perhaps ... I don't remember much from the 80's since I was only 3. What exactly are you referring to?

And thanks for the suggestions. I was trying to stick with the colors of the real painting.
