That's a store in Montreal... some of the better prices to be found. What do you think for $3200cdn? That's roughly what in US? $2000 or so? no idea...

It looks good to me, except for a few things. Don't buy generic memory. Memory is not the place to skimp. The reliability, stability, longevity, compatibilty, and performance of your entire system depend somewhat on memory. I would also hold off on a DVD writer. They are nice, but I think in about 6 months or so they will cost half as much. Also, make sure the power supply included with that case is not some generic waste of material. Get one from a reputable company like Sparkle, Enermax, Antex, HEC, etc.

If you're buying all new components, and want Windows XP, save yourself some potential hassle and get a Santa Cruz instead of the SBLive. Creative is not exactly pushing themselves to get the Live drivers updated for XP and a number of people have run into problems. And I would try to avoid generic RAM on such an otherwise high-performance machine - though I have no idea what your availability is in Canada.

It's a store i've purchased from many times, and I have never ever had trouble with their generic memory (using it in this system and in my bro's system). All of their memory has had no problems at "ultra" speed settings in the BIOS. I have never had any troubles in regards to power supplies either, and me and my bro both have medium atx 300w $40 cases...

As for the DVD-RAm... well yeah $800 is quite excessive, it's not a system for me, but a friend who wanted something over the top. Just had to find something to push the priceu p... hehe. I think I'll get rid of that, get a DVD and CDRW drive, and add a mouse, keyboard and sound system.

I was just sticking to one store (with no good namebrand ram and no santa cruz). Otherwise I would have chosen a high quality name-brand PS, I would have chosen Crucial memory, and I would have chosen the Santa Cruz sound card of course.

Ironcially, my bro and I both have SBLive's (I have Value, he has 5.1), and they both work flawlessly in Win2K, WinXP and Linux (only mine was tested with Linux).

La Centrale Informatique sucks bad... They're cheap, but service is horrible. Ever heard of Sigmawave? Their prices are almost as good, and it's a much better store.

As for the hardware, it looks good except for the generic ram, and SB Live!.

Yeah, most of them seem to work eventually - I was just trying to be careful. I've got the Value myself, and it was pretty flaky but has been fixed up fine now. Funny that I had an easier time getting it to work under Linux than XP, though.
