Yes, so as to get closer to him. But what stands out for me unfortunately is the reflection/glare of your flash on the camera your son is holding.

Classic shot....but it looks like there was enough ambient light that a flash wasnt necessary. I would have stepped it down to f/2.8, maybe bumped the ISO to 200 and taken a vertical picture. On my XTi I have found that the auto mode does a poor job taking pictures in low light since the flash is rather weak. Try shooting on Av (apperture priority) of Tv (Shutter priority mode).

Thanks for the suggestions. I like the pose so I'll see if I can get him to cooperate with another attempt.

yeah, definitely need to kill that flash. or go w/ off-camera lighting. Something about the setting seems bland to me though. anyone else think this would look better with his son full framed?
