Did auto everything on CS2, and a few pics were cropped. I need to learn how to use my telephoto lens better, that thing weighs 1.5kg and I still haven't gotten a monopod yet :/

I'm pretty good with the 17-85 IS USM now, the CA is really annoying though.

The 1st shot is pretty soft. Personally I'd ditch those lenses and get a Tokina 28-75 2.8 and a Sigma 70-200 2.8. I hate slow glass.

I don't mean to be rude, not every picture is perfect, but i think you need to work on your composition a bit more. There is no really easy way to do it, just take lots and lots of photos and you'll figure out what works. Would love to know how many you took to get these ones... I usually get 1 i really like out of 20 shots...

The pier and beach would have probably looked quite good with a bit of a longer shutter as well. If you dont have a tripod try and find something to sit the camera on, that or sit down yourself and get really really stable.

Good luck!

the 17-85 is pretty sharp when stopped down, and the tokina is pretty sharp when it's used properly, i just got to learn how to use it better. I get blurry shots at 1/100 with that thing because it's so heavy.

I took everything in RAW and I didn't install the canon software thing, so i haven't sat down and looked at everything yet.

I'm going to invest in a monopod as well. IS is a life saver but i've been spoilt by it too much.

no, you get blurry shots at 1/100 because unless you have ungodly steady hands, you can't handhold a 70-200 lens on a 1.6 crop body at 1/100.

To get decently sharp images on a full frame camera, you should have a shutter speed of 1 / the focal length. So at 200mm you'd need a shutter speed of 1/200 to have a decent chance of getting a sharp image.

Most modern dSLRs have a 1.6 crop factor, (without getting to technical) which multiplies the length of your lens by 1.6, so at 200mm you have to have a shutter speed of 1/320 or faster to handhold successfully.

Research:
Light quality
Selective Focus and Depth of Field

Reshoot those subjects after doing that research and tell me what you think.

I shoot RAW without canon software as well. if if you have photoshop, adobe bridge is quite good for previewing raw, if not try Picassa from google.

As for the monopod, if you do lots of landscapes like it seams you do i would recommend a full tripod. It will let you do lots more in terms of long exposures. I have a brilliant Velbon ultra lux if which is tiny when folded and light as a feather.

Good luck.
