Been a few years since i've build a gaming machine (one i plan on OCing), so i've been out of the loop for awhile. I took a lot of advice from Anandtech's AMD guide.

GIGABYTE GA-MA790XT
AMD Phenom II X3
2 x OCZ Reaper 4GB PC2 9200
XIGMATEK Dark Knight-S1283V
BFG Tech LS SERIES LS-550 550W Continuous @ 40°C
MSI GeForce GTX 260
Corsair 128GB SSD
iStarUSA D-406-B6SA-BLUE Steel 4U Rackmount Server Case

I added the case in this anyways cause this is probably one of the things i'm most excited about believe it or not! I was gonna use one of my old 4U cases, but they're pretty banged up (from nearly a decade of use), and i wanted hot swappable bays.

How does that look? Any compatibility issues? Any suggestions on replacements (like i said, i went with AT's guide on ram, mobo, etc simply because i'm so out of the loop on those things atm), especially if it's cheaper (but remember it needs to be available for me in Canada).

Does the 4U case have sufficient cooling? I only ask because depending on if you are overclocking or you plan on doing some folding (when you're not gaming), heat build-up will be significant especially with a GTX 260. Mine averages 50 degrees Celsius (in an Antec 900) and I have three fans blowing cold air onto the graphics card.

Other than changing out the 128GB SSD (prices will probably drop in about 6 months) with a 300GB VelociRaptor (or another HDD that has 32MB of cache with very read/write performance) and you can save yourself some money. Once prices for SSDs drop to a respectable price per GB then you can upgrade from there.

Other than those two items, the build looks good.

Why do you need DDR2-1150 RAM? Not only is it more expensive, but it also requires a higher voltage and thus generates more heat and draws more power. Most people seem to recommend DDR2-800 running at 1.8V. Even overclockers often just keep their RAM running at slightly under the rated speed (which would be even easier with an AMD Black Edition processor since overclocking doesn't require you to change the bus speed).

The ram was what the Anandtech guide recommended. What would you recommend?

Is there a better cooling solution for similar price?

As for the 4U cooling, hopefully it will be decent. The thing is built to hold at least 6 HDDs as it is, and build quality on racks are usually better than PCs quality.

The SSD isn't negotiable. I'm definitely keeping that. After using an SSD for awhile, there's no way i'm going back to spindle drives, at least for the OS/programs drive. I'm very well suited in storage already, so that's not a concern of mine.
