As we are reading through our text book we have a few practice questions for each section just to help us along. In this section, we are working on wether or not statements are acceptable and why.

Could you help me out here. My answers will be in bold underneath the questions. (using A and U for statements being acceptable or unacceptable)

1. There is no great twentieth century poet.
U: Easily refutable (counter example)

2. This artwork was not created by an artist.
U: (I'm not sure why - isn't anyone who creates art an artist?)

3. Sleep deprivation can cause emotional problems.
A: (empirical?)

4. Physical objects are extended in space
A: Known a priori true

5. New York is the capital of the United States
U: common knowledge

6. My guardian angel's name is Clarence.
U: Controversial assumption

7. There is as yet no unified theory in physics [asserted by Stephen Hawking]
A: Appropriate authority

8. Arthur Danto's first published paper is his best.
U: (I don't know why)

9. Women are statistically shorter than men.
A: known a priori true

10. The world is a text.
U: (too vague?)
