Alright here's the deal. I did a disk defrag while I was out, for about 4 hours, and in the process turned of all programs, including Zone-Alarm. Everything went fine. I come home, restart the computer, and it reboots every time it attempts to load Windows XP Home Edition. So I'm like, alright, I'll try and repair it. I did this, and now it just freezes there. Could this be a hardware problem, or is it worth it for me to go out and upgrade my HD anyway (cause im assuming if its not a hardware problem I can just do a fresh install on the new one, with both installed, and copy all my files)? I stress that the comp was JUST fine until it tried starting Windows again. My initial fear is hackers, but I also have a firewall in my router, albeit a weak one, I suppose.
Basically, all I want to know is if this could possibly be CPU, mem, or mb crapping out.

it could just be a windows issue...

my universal fix it all is to reformat my hard drive :)

if that doesn't work.. then it may be a hard ware issue

I'm thinking it's a Windows issue, but I'm saying I'm not certain. If it's a hardware issue, then I wait and get some new stuff...If it's not, I get a new HD and just reinstall everything. I would rather not have to start over if the only problem is hardware-related. So, basically, are hardware problems at all a possibility here?

in my personal opinion, i really don't think it's a hardware problem...

the only other thing that would prevent windows from loading is if you have your cpu overclocked too much and not enough juice flowing through it...

Yup, sounds like a Winblows problem to me. Does the computer boot to DOS from a floppy? If so, check the hard drive with the disk that came with it.

You didn't by chance flash the BIOS did you? When I flashed my BIOS to the latest version... windows xp got corrupted and the only way to fix it was to reformat and install.

Nope, I did absolutely nothing. I've decided that I'm going to buy a new HD and install Windows on IT, then copy all of my important files to it from the old HD (will be the Slave now). Thanks much for the help...I used to overclock, but never this chip and not at the moment, and I flashed the BIOS, but that was a few weeks ago. Really, this is what I expected, as I remember that when my 1700+ was o/c'ed too far Windows would hang on boot up, but the fact that, even after repairing Windows, it wouldn't boot up, worried me a little. Again, thanks.

I drove my system to 494Mhz, and it completely killed my windows installation, I was unable to recover it at all. Luckly I'd ghosted my hard drive to another one a week or so before, and got that copy back up and running - but now I ghost BEFORE I start screwing with my settings.
