I was just checking out one of their used laptop inventory pages and almost crapped my pants! :Q I guess I won't be gettin' a Dell, dude. I mean, they knock a whole hundred bucks off a USED piece of equipment that someone else has already beaten up. Wow, a whole hundred bucks...how can I ever thank you?

Hopefully RossMAN can come thru with a hot deal on a Dell lappy for me. We'll see.

The refurbs are in my experience identical to new pieces of equipment. I've used a number of refurbed systems from dell and they look and function exactly like new- not even so much as a scratch. It's basically like you're getting a new system for $100 less.

as Mani said.. Dell refurbs are anything but beat up. My roomate has 2 or 3 of them and other than the cardboard box saying refurb on it they are pretty much identical to new systems

When going for Dell refurbs it also really helps to check their inventory first thing in the morning-the cheap stuff usually gets snapped up right away. :)

Also, if brand isn't necessarily a concern you might want to consider that Toshiba Satellite deal that's floating around.

You can wait on your laptop purchase until around June, right? By then Dell will have some pretty kick ass deals on their Inspiron 4100 laptop. I'll keep you in mind the next time they have another round of Hot Deals.

By then the I4200 and C640 will be out though, and you'll procrastinate more waiting on those prices to come down. :)

Actually a little birdie told me that Dell's low-end (2000 series) will be getting a nice new addition to the family by then which will be affordable and well-appointed, and based on a new chassis (which IMO looks even better/more rugged than the high-end offerings now).

the 2600 is already out. it does look nicer, dont know about toughness, but definitely looks nicer. most companies refurbishing is very stringent. it there is a scratch on a case panel, it gets replaced. when i was at hp's refurb center they did that. and everything was retested just like a new one.

Wow, you guys some some smokin' hot deals there! I'm very new to the lappy market, so I want to take my time in order to ensure that I understand what it is I'm buying and that I'll be happy with it. For example, I want a laptop that will take a minimum of 256mb of system memory. 32 or 64megs ain't gonna cut it. I also want one with a 133FSB. There's a very noticeable diff b/t 100 and 133. Much "snappier." :D

I'll be browsing around the net today, just lurking. Be checkin' out HD forum too! Thanks.

Ah, looks like the new chassis is already out. I have used a few here and it seems more solid than the older ones. Though the one I'm referring to is the 2650, which will have features current high-end notebooks currently have and will be under $1000. Though if you're a fan of modular drives, you may as well go with the 8100 deal mrchan did.

Darn Ross, that is one smokin' Hot Deal!!! :Q And one that I'm very tempted to jump at...it does have a PIII, which is what I want...no laptop Celly's for me. Just a gut feeling..but that's neither here nor there. Sheesh; it's even got a burner...another "must have" for me.

I will wait until next month. Finances are tight right now...I have other projects going on. I need to purchase $200 worth of 1/4-inch plate glass for a snake cage I'm building...then there's other little things...like food.

Business at my second job will be brisk, to say the least, next month, so it works out for the best. What a Hot Deal, though. :( me\<--would buy one right now for resale later if I had the dough

Thanks very much, Ross, for keeping me in mind and digging up my thread. You're a good guy. *gives you a strictly friendly, non-sexual hug...and lets go quickly* Please DO keep me in mind for any other *ahem* Dell deals you just happen to hear about next month ;) Have a super evening. :)

Laptoplessly but waitingly yours,
Mike

OK. No more hugs for you. How about beer? Beer is good. Beer is great. Beer makes me stay up late. Whoa. I'm tired....g'night. :)
